Marielle Racoma: Advocating for the Protection of All Species and Their Habitats
Marielle has big plans for the future. She hopes to create a pop-up book showcasing the Philippines’ endangered species, fulfill her dream of becoming a National Geographic explorer (with her first pitch focusing on Philippine pangolins, her favorite animal!), and grow Our Endangered PH into an organization that helps repopulate and rehabilitate the country’s biodiversity by working with experts to fast-track conservation efforts. She reflects, “I believe that my biggest achievement is yet to come. If, and only when, I'm able to save even one endangered species, then I'll say my work is done.”

How A Thesis Led To Animals Capturing Someone's Heart
"Marielle’s goal in life is to amplify the voices of those who struggle to be heard. Her thesis project aims to break the stigma around animals who aren’t domesticated. “Speciesism, or the idea that one animal is more important than another, is a real issue that I try my best to combat . . . by showing everyone that all animals matter. “ Her dream for this project is to provide an atlas that showcases endangered species from the Philippines."

Young Filipina Advocates to Look Out For
Women’s and animal rights don’t differ from each other so much; we are both fighting for equality and compassion. To young girls, keep fighting the fight. Your voice and every individual action makes a difference. In order to live in a world rid of injustice and fear, we need to work and stick together. Big or small, every animal matters and every little win-whether it be informing others of the realities behind the farmed animal industry, educating yourself on animal advocacy in the country, or simply keeping chicken off your plate, as long as you strive to be a better person for yourself and for the animals, it all counts for something. And that makes all the difference.
